Board Certified Interventional Pain Management Physician Advanced Pain Management and Spine Specialist

For Karen, a patient of advanced pain management and spine specialist Dr. Jonathan Daitch, the Relievant Intracept® procedure gave her “a whole new life!”

This minimally invasive, non-implantable procedure safely blocks pain signals that cause chronic back pain. Intracept® surgery is ideal for adults who want effective, long-term relief after conservative measures have failed.

Adults who suffer from persistent back pain often forget how important a role pain plays in their lives. Like Karen, back pain affects the ability to perform daily tasks and the quality of her sleep.

Once the pain is gone, people are able to resume an active lifestyle and experience significant improvement. Thanks to Intracept, Karen now feels like “there’s nothing I can’t physically do.”

While Dr. Deitch kept Karen’s pain at manageable levels for years, the relief was always temporary. He felt she was a good candidate for new surgery for her back pain and recommended the Intracept procedure as a long-term treatment option.

Intracept surgery is designed to interrupt the basal spinal nerves that innervate the vertebrae. Intracept short-circuits the nerve supply.

The beauty of this process is that it’s done “all in one go.”

Experience shows that the nerve does not grow back, so the procedure can provide long-term pain relief.

Fifty percent of patients experienced greater than 75% pain relief, and one-third of patients experienced complete relief of low back pain.

After discussing the procedure, Karen was happy to proceed.

Dr. Daitch explained that the most important first step in determining who is a candidate for surgery is if they have MODIC vertebral endplate changes on their MRI. These changes indicate painful inflammatory changes in the vertebrae themselves, which transmit pain.

The Intracept procedure is performed in less than an hour at Parker Surgery Center, an Pain Relief Institute of America ambulatory surgery center located on the first floor of the facility. This is a fully accredited surgery center that provides sedation services safely and comfortably.

During the procedure, the patient is comfortably sedated. A curved cannula is inserted through a small incision and targets the painful nerves within 2-4 affected vertebrae. Using a controlled heating process, pain signals can be interrupted for a long period of time.

Karen was only in the surgery center for a total of 3-4 hours, but immediately realized that “the pain I had felt all these years was gone!” Most patients experience pain relief within the first 2 to 6 weeks.

“When conservative measures fail to provide the patient with the desired level of comfort, procedures such as Intracept are often the answer for long-term symptom relief,” said Dr. Daitch. “For those who wish to avoid open surgery or continue repeat pain management treatments, we offer some of the most advanced options in Southwest Florida.”

Karen has high praise for the entire team at Pain Relief Institute of America. “I have been going there for many years. They always excel in every area and show the utmost respect to their patients. This is an extraordinary office.

She also encourages others to consider Pain Relief Institute of America’ advanced program. “I highly recommend this for anyone who is in pain every day and doesn’t want to continue with their current treatment regimen,” adds Karen.
